Pico Art Walk & Car Show
Pico Improvement Organization
Saturday October 17, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Stroll on down to The 4th Annual Pico Art Walk & Car Show. This is a community-based festival dedicated to raising the profile of Pico Boulevard, its diverse local businesses and its contributions to Santa Monica’s vibrant art sector. The Art Walk features children’s activities, musical performances and “A Taste of Pico” food booths at Virginia Avenue Park, but you shouldn’t miss the rest of the fun all up and down the boulevard. A Vintage Car Show, at the SGI Buddhist Center, is definitely worth a look. Tour Pico Boulevard’s galleries, shops and studios in a double-decker bus provided by Starline Tours — one of this year’s sponsors — and shuttle along Pico Blvd free of charge. Enjoy art, music, cars, food, and fun for the entire family.

This event is FREE to the public.

Labor Day Weekend

September 9, 2009

a REMAX logoSo it’s back to school and the traffic reflects it.  Since they have almost contained the Station Fire the smoke is not as bad.

Saw ‘Julie and Julia’ this weekend and now I want to get Master the Art of Cooking.  It is based on a blogger and Julia Child’s intersection.  That Meryl Streep is fantastic.  We went to the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.  The place was packed, but the theater was not, due to the fact that we went to the 4:30 pm show.  The sun was still out when we left.  Then on to P.F. Chang’s for dinner.

Tried the new “Tasting Kitchen” on Abbot Kinney in Venice.  Very delightful, with lots of open windows.  The acoustics are poor and difficult to hear many in our party.  Delighted by the butter with salt sprinkled on top.  They typically have a different menu every day.  There is something for everyone on the menu: chicken fish, beef and vegetarian dishes.  Unique cocktails and Mexican Coke, which is without high fructose corn syrup, but made with sugar instead.  We did not order from the wine menu.

I also saw Ponyo a Japanese animation about a gold fish that wants to become a little girl.  We loved it.  It has hand drawn animation.

Sunday I got up early and took a bike ride down bike path along Ballona Creek.   I had an open house in Playa del Rey and was surprised by the amount of people out on a holiday weekend.

Well, I guess this is the end of summer, but let’s drag it out for as long as possible.

A great long weekend.  I hope you had one also

Just Got Back From a Hal Ashby Tribute

June 25, 2009

a REMAX logoAt the Academy of Motion Pictures in Beverly Hills.   Yusuf (Cat Stevens) sang songs that he wrote for the film.  That was very moving.  6/26-6/28 there will be screenings of his movies at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood.  Harold and Maude was screened which I saw over 30 years ago.  Only 4 people showed up that time.  This theater was packed.  Although it was sold out; I had taken a number for stand-by and stood near the door before they let stand-bys in. Someone gave me a ticket for which I am grateful, whomever you are, thank you.  Check out the Academy’s website for more events.

Plenty to do in LA.

Playa del Rey Beach House Comes up for Sale

June 24, 2009

It’s summertime and the livin; is easy.  Walk to the beach and surf all day with friends and family, head back and have a cocktail in your relaxing backyard.  Everyone is mingling in your beautiful remodeled kitchen with center isle and granite counters, which looks at the fireplace and dining room.  Children are running in and out and playing on the wood floors, everyone’s dogs are rough housing and happy to be with their family.  As the evening cool air arrives, you light the fireplace in the living room and master bedroom.   This warms up the crowd as they dine under the moonlit sky.  Old friends are mingling and catching up on their lives.   Teenagers are crammed  into the loft of the guest house whispering their secrets.  Giggles and laughter waft through the night air.   This couldn’t get any better.

I am back

May 2, 2009

Just  got back from the garden island of Kaua’i in Hawaii.  If you have never been, now is a great time for flights and accommodations.  We stayed at the Kono Pai Resort in Kapa’a with  our room right on the water.  I was able to purchase this timeshare for a very good price and this is my first time to visit.  Kap’aa is a great central location within walking distance of restaurants and shopping.  Anyone interested should visit for any accommodations.  We almost put 600 miles on a rental jeep.  The weather was a little cool, some clouds, some rain; but hey, a bad day in Hawaii beats a good day in most places.  The first picture is the first scenic view once you reach Princeville,  the sunrise was just outside my window, the coastal scene is where seabirds nest at Kilauea Point Wildlife Refuge, the beach with the mountains was Polihalo.  We had to drive 4 miles on a dirt road to get to this.  Glad we had the jeep.  This is the last beach before the Na Pali Coast which is only reachable by boat or trail.

I was happy to see that residents are interested in seeing  their islands become more sustainable.

I accidently hit the strikout and cannot figure how to remove it.

Leonard Cohen

April 13, 2009

Having some problems with the site, so I have not added in a few days.

Saw Leonard Cohen at the Nokia Live Theater on Saturday night.  A great concert.  He’s 75 and still able to move the audiance.  The band and back-up singers were tight.  The  Nokia is a new downtown venue, near the Staples center.  So much to do in L.A.

You can catch him at Coachella this Friday, along with Paul McCartney.
